Hot air ballooning is a must-do when visiting Morocco, and although only a few cities like Marrakesh and Fez offer such flights, it is an unforgettable and breathtaking experience. The most notable one is arranged by Ciel D’Afrique in Marrakesh.

Dawn

The hot air balloon flight starts at dawn, so you can enjoy the experience of watching the sunrise.

The start of the flight

The flight begins slowly but as it flies higher and higher you can slightly see the sun start to rise in the horizon.

Getting higher

By this time, the hot air balloon is at a high altitude and the clouds start disappearing to leave room for the sun.

Sun is up

The sun is fully up by now and you can start watching the Atlas Mountains appear in the background afar.

The flight continues

The silent flight slowly hovers over the many picturesque landscapes of Marrakesh.

Time’s up

After about 1 hour, the hot air balloon starts to descend.

Landing

The landing might be a little scary, as the basket lands horizontally, but Ciel D’Afrique are experienced and have been operating such flights since 1990.

By now, you can watch the balloon deflate and fully take in this spectacular experience.

4×4

Now, it’s time to get on the 4×4 to head over the tribal tent, and enjoy a massive delicious Moroccan breakfast.

Tribal tent

The breakfast is held in a traditional Moroccan tent, and is made by women from the nearby village.

Horseback riding or quad bike riding are a few other activities that you can choose from or bring some cards and board games to bond with your travel companions. Some camps also offer hammam and/or massage treatments to guests in specially equipped tents.

When the sun goes does enjoy a delicious meal with a nearby campfire while gazing at the stars. It won’t be quite as clear as in the Sahara, as you can still see some of the lights from Marrakech but it is lovely for stargazing!
