The Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Desert Trip from Fes to Marrakech
Day 1 : Fes – Midelt – Erfoud – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
To escape the peak of heat, this Fes-to-Marrakech 4-day Sahara tour begins at 8:00 a.m. For starters, we will go across the Middle Atlas Mountains and cedar woodlands to reach Midelt for lunch. En route, you’ll have time to visit Azrou, a cedar wood hub, and Ifrane, a picturesque ski town. This region is passionately loved for its bohemian atmosphere and is a charming nature-inspired location to discover as you explore Morocco’s vastness.
The afternoon will be spent driving to Erfoud and the desert. That’s the first time you are going to see the sheer grandeur of the Sahara and its off-road routes brimming with dunes and sun-soaked majesty.
For supper and an overnight stay, you’ll be taken into a fully equipped motel near the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. It’s located a stone’s throw away from Merzouga and welcomes travelers for calm sleep.
Day 2: Merzouga – Erfoud – Amellagou ( spring & summer )- Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge
Why Merzouga, you ask? This southeastern village is an ideal location to catch the first light of the day on your Fes-to-Marrakech 4-day desert tour. You’ll spend the dawn hours in Moroccan nature to witness the sun’s awakening before you have a camel ride back to the motel. There’s no better way to start the second day of your adventure.
After you indulge in a delicious breakfast at the motel, we will leave for Rissani and Erfoud. There, you will drop by an internationally famous fossil processing plant to check out Morocco’s fossilized and marble gems. For a greener touch on your tour, the next places to visit are Touroug and Tinejdad, where you can take a walk in an open-air space amid palm groves.
Hope you’re hungry by this time because we’ll stay in Todra Gorges for lunch. Once your energy is back in full force, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking ride to Dades Gorges. It’s so breathtaking because we’re going to drive past Boumalne and the incredible Dades Valley, a generously lush and Instagram-worthy location. Could you think of a better place for a hotel to have dinner and bed down?
Day 3: Dades Gorge – Roses Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou
There’s no such thing as too much of the Dades Valley. That’s why your Fes-to-Marrakech desert tour for 4 days continues through the naturally carved gorges to the kasbah of Ait Youl once you are done with your breakfast. We’ll pass the Valley of Roses while sightseeing its kasbahs and ksours.
During lunchtime, you will absorb the beauty of the palm orchards of Skoura and the kasbah of Amredhyle. The latter is a must-see landmark for history buffs and travelers who appreciate the gorgeous views of fortified buildings. Another point of interest included in this itinerary is Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate.
The best way to end this day is to go to Ait Ben Haddou and stay in a lovely kasbah. You’ll have dinner and check into a comfortable hotel to spend the night.
Day 4 : Ait Ben Haddou -Telouet – Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
In the morning, we’ll go to Aït Benhaddou, a “fortified city” on the caravan route between Marrakech and the Sahara. Its exquisite kasbahs, some of which are occupied, are on a slope beside the Ounila Valley River. You’ll have a chance to see and take pictures of the most authentic of them.
Following lunch, we’ll visit Telouet, the Kasbah of el Glaoui, and the High Atlas range. Unraveling the mystery of abandoned kasbahs and the historical power of local families is always fascinating and engaging. Add imposing mountain views to your adventure, and you know why 4 Days Fes-to-Marrakech desert tours are so worthy of your time.
At the end of the day, we’ll head to Marrakech, the final destination of this tour. Make sure to book accommodations beforehand for a trouble-free hotel stay once your adventure draws to a close.
